What Helps Me Most To Stay Consistent With The Gym
It can be hard to get to the gym, it really can for so many reasons!
Something new I'm doing this year that has really helped me with consistency and accountability is both following a workout program I like, but specifically one that has a body part split. If I like the program, I will show up more and it will be easier to go to the gym. But specifically a body part split is less overwhelming to me mentally which makes it easier. I like focusing on one area at a time. Also, I want my body to develop at the same rate everywhere so if I miss a day and get thrown off, my schedule gets all messed up. This helps me go everyday because I don't like to feel off track and I don't want to neglect any specific area.
Here's to accountability!

It's seriously so tough to stay consistent with the gym sometimes, right? We all have those days where motivation just isn't there, or life simply gets in the way. Beyond finding a workout program you genuinely enjoy, like my favorite body part split strategy, there are a few other things that have really helped me cement my gym habit. First off, let's dive a bit deeper into why a body part split can be such a game-changer for consistency. Instead of trying to hit every muscle group in one session, a body part split allows you to dedicate a full workout to specific areas, like a 'leg day' or an 'upper body day.' For me, this reduces decision fatigue when I walk into the gym – I know exactly what I'm training. It also allows for better recovery for each muscle group, meaning I'm less likely to be super sore and dread my next session. Plus, it just feels so satisfying to really exhaust one area before moving on! There are tons of great programs out there; I've personally found success with programs like those found on the 'Alive App', which offer well-structured body part splits. But consistency isn't just about the workout structure. Here are a few other hacks I've picked up along the way for how to stay consistent in the gym: Schedule It Like an Appointment: This might sound obvious, but actually blocking out time in your calendar for your gym sessions makes a huge difference. Treat it like a non-negotiable meeting. Find Your 'Why': Why do you even want to go to the gym? Is it for strength, energy, mental health, aesthetics? Remind yourself of this 'why' on those days you just don't feel like going. Make It Enjoyable: If you hate running on the treadmill, don't force it! Try group classes, lift weights, swim, or dance. Find what you love, and you're much more likely to stick with it. Great music or a favorite podcast can also be a huge motivator. Track Your Progress: Seeing how far you've come is incredibly motivating. Whether it's lifting heavier, running faster, or just feeling stronger, logging your workouts helps you visualize your growth and reinforces your efforts. Don't Aim for Perfection: Life happens. You'll miss a day, or even a week. The key is not to let one missed session derail your entire routine. Just get back to it on the next scheduled day. Consistency isn't about being perfect; it's about showing up most of the time. Prepare the Night Before: Lay out your gym clothes, pack your bag, or prep your post-workout snack. Removing obstacles the morning of can make it much easier to just get up and go. Staying consistent in the gym is a journey, not a destination. It's about finding strategies that work for you and building sustainable habits. What has worked wonders for you in your fitness journey?
