Stretches To Decrease BLOATING

Here are some stretches that should help decrease your bloating! Remember a little bloat is okay but excessive bloat is not. Also you can not out stretch a bad diet :)

Child's pose is such a go to. It is relaxing and draws your stomach in and helps relieve pressure. It is great for general bloating but also during your period!

Cat cow stretches also feel amazing. It helps stretch your stomach in both contrasting ways which should relieve some pressure. Spend a few seconds in each one before switching back and forth.

Knees to chest also feels great on the stomach. You can rock here a bit if preferred or just hold it.

All of these together should make a difference especially if you do them daily!

... Read moreHey everyone! I totally get it – that uncomfortable, tight feeling of bloating can really put a damper on your day. While those go-to stretches I shared are truly amazing for immediate relief, I’ve learned a lot more on my journey to a happier tummy. One question I often see is, 'why does water bloat my stomach?' It might sound counterintuitive, but sometimes how you drink water can contribute! Gulping down large amounts too quickly, especially cold water, can sometimes trap air or shock your system, leading to temporary bloating. I've found sipping room-temperature water slowly throughout the day, rather than chugging it, really helps. But it's not just water. Common culprits for me include certain high-FODMAP foods, eating too fast (hello, air swallowing!), stress, and even inconsistent meal times. It's a bit of a detective game to figure out your triggers, but paying attention to what you eat and how you feel afterward is key. Beyond the basics, I’ve found that sometimes I need a little extra help. For instance, while Child's Pose is fantastic, sometimes I'll add a gentle twist by walking my hands to one side, holding for a few breaths, and then switching. This can really amplify the abdominal massage effect! Similarly, with Cat Cow, really exaggerating the arch (like a happy cow!) and then rounding (like a scared cat!) through my spine helps to gently churn things in my digestive system. And for Knees to Chest, I sometimes add a gentle rock from side to side, or even extend one leg straight while holding the other knee in, to target different areas. If you’re looking to explore a few more stretches, I highly recommend adding a gentle Supine Spinal Twist. Lying on your back, bring both knees to your chest, then let them fall gently to one side, extending your arms out to a 'T' shape. Look over the opposite shoulder. This feels incredible for releasing lower back tension and can aid digestion. Another one I love, which some might think of as a 'back arch' type stretch for overall abdominal relief and spinal decompression, is a gentle Downward-Facing Dog (if you're comfortable with yoga poses). I wouldn't call myself an 'expert' but consistency is what really matters! Remember, while these stretches to decrease bloating are incredibly helpful, they're part of a bigger picture. As I mentioned in my original post, you really can't out-stretch a bad diet. Focusing on whole, unprocessed foods, eating mindfully, staying hydrated, and managing stress are all pieces of the puzzle for long-term gut health. If your bloating is persistent, severe, or accompanied by other symptoms, it’s always best to chat with a doctor. But for everyday discomfort, these gentle movements are my absolute lifesavers. Give them a try and see how much better your tummy feels!
