The character is inspired by femtanyl, but so far everyone thinks it’s just femtanyl, not an oc 🥲

... Read moreHey everyone! I just wanted to dive a bit deeper into my recent post about my new original character. I’ve seen some comments and searches that show there’s a bit of confusion, and I really want to clear the air. My character is truly a labor of love, and she's specifically inspired by the artist known as Femtanyl.
Now, I totally get why the name might cause some people to ask questions like 'do they do drugs?' The spelling is super similar to 'fentanyl,' which we all know is a very serious medication and drug. But let me be absolutely, 100% clear: my character, and this post, have absolutely nothing to do with drugs or drug use. My inspiration comes purely from the artist Femtanyl, who is known for their unique music and incredible glitch-art aesthetic.
If you're not familiar with Femtanyl the artist, you're in for a treat! Their work often features vibrant, almost chaotic, digital art, sometimes with elements that feel a bit dark or edgy, but always incredibly creative. Think neon colors, broken screens, and deeply stylized characters, often with a sort of cyber-punk or digital-horror vibe. That's the world I was drawing from. The 'stylized black cat-like character with a hammer in its head and blood' that you might see in some of the visuals? That's a classic example of the kind of edgy, distinct imagery that defines this artistic style. I love how they blend abstract patterns with distinct character designs, creating something truly memorable.
When I created my OC, I wanted to capture that energetic, glitch-art essence while still making her completely my own. For instance, I was really drawn to the idea of incorporating those 'pink and green plant-like patterns' and the overall vibrant, yet slightly unsettling, aesthetic into her design. It’s about taking those visual cues and reinterpreting them through my own artistic lens. She has a 'spiral design, pink collar, and striped accessories' that are nods to that inspiration, but I’ve added my own touches to make her unique. It’s not just a copy; it's a new story told in a familiar visual language.
It’s a tricky balance to create an original character that pays homage to an artist you admire. You want to capture the feeling and style without simply replicating it. For me, it was about identifying the core elements that make Femtanyl's art so compelling – the bold colors, the raw emotion, the digital distortion – and then finding ways to weave those into a character that feels fresh and distinct. I poured a lot of thought into her backstory and personality, ensuring she stands on her own two feet as a character.
So, next time you see my OC, remember she's a piece of art inspired by art, not by anything harmful. I hope this helps clear up any confusion and lets you appreciate her for the creative endeavor she is! What do you think of her design elements? I'd love to hear your thoughts on her unique look in the comments below! ✨
