What's worse: miss the show show or being scammed
I was trying to buy tickets for a show that's already been sold out til I came across a woman on Reddit. Her username was like the dafault username Reddit will give. I was looking at that but thought maybe she just liked this one because it did say her account is 3 years old.
She agreed to pay through PayPal, and this is where I dropped my guard. She said something about she's not in the country and would like us to pay her in another currency. Again, did not think it will be a problem. Just when I'm about to pay, PayPal directed me to another webstie called Xoom.
I stopped here. I really wanted the tickets but don't want to be scammed too. I went ahead and called the venue asking if they had experience with audiences being scammed. They said no because everyone will receive a confirmation email.
I'm tempted. Someone enlighten me please.
Buying tickets for sold-out shows can be stressful, especially when options to buy from other fans or third parties pop up online. However, it’s important to be cautious of scams—like being redirected to payment platforms such as Xoom when purchasing through PayPal. These can be signs of fraud attempts. When dealing with ticket sales from individuals, especially on platforms like Reddit, verify the seller's legitimacy. Check for account age, interactions, and user history instead of relying solely on how long the account has existed. Sellers with default usernames or limited activity may be less trustworthy. Venues typically send confirmation emails or offer tickets through official channels, which helps avoid scams. If uncertain, contact the venue directly to confirm ticket policies and verify if tickets can be transferred legitimately. Avoid paying in unfamiliar currencies or through unusual payment links. PayPal’s buyer protection typically applies only to payments sent using their system and not through external sites like Xoom. To protect yourself, only use official ticketing websites or trusted resellers. Remember, missing a show is disappointing, but losing money to a scam is worse. It's better to wait and buy from verified sources or official resale platforms. Sharing your experience and seeking advice from community forums can also provide helpful insights and prevent others from being scammed.
