Colonial records show the opposite: Europeans selected Africans because they already possessed the skills colonizers lacked. So yes—Foundational Black Americans trace their lineage to Africans who were present in the Americas before mass enslavement and who ultimately stem from Africa. Later-enslaved Africans came from the same source. Same region. Same skills. Different historical phase. The labor was not created in America.
