Can we talk about the new SpongeBob movie?
Okay… can we talk about the new SpongeBob movie for a second? The one where Ice Spice had her butt out for the premier? Now THAT is starting to make sense. 😒
I hate to be that person because SpongeBob was literally part of my childhood. Absurd, chaotic, clever…it worked. But we took my stepson to see the new movie thinking it’d be harmless nostalgia &… why was there so much a*s?? 😭
Not clever jokes. Not quick visual gags. Just prolonged, very intentional butt humor. Over and over. & yeah, SpongeBob has always had silly moments, but this felt less “kid humor” & more “we’re seeing how far we can push it.” We hadn’t watched a Spongebob movie in a while & walked out kind of like…oh. Regret. Mild confusion. BIG side-eye.
Maybe I’m aging out. Maybe I’m becoming the fun-police. Or maybe kids’ movies don’t need to rely on shock value when the originals proved they could be smart and funny.
I’m curious though. Did anyone else notice this? Or am I officially entering my “back in my day SpongeBob was better” era?

well SpongeBob has always not really been for kids in the older episodes. He literally has an episode where he was watching inappropriate stuff on his TV and Gary came in 😂
