Each stitch is formed individually with a single hook, pulling a loop directly through another loop, often in a more complex, three-dimensional way. Think about all those intricate stitches we love – granny squares, amigurumi, lace patterns. Each one requires precise manipulation of the yarn and hook. It's not just about linear rows; it's about building structure stitch by stitch. This makes it incredibly difficult to automate with traditional machine designs. There are some machines that can create what looks like crochet, but they often use a simpler, chain-stitch type method, or they're more akin to industrial knitting machines making looped fabrics.
