New marker swatches

Finding the right art supplies when you're just starting out can feel a bit overwhelming, right? I totally get it! That's why I was so excited to share my new marker find with you all. As a new artist myself, I’m always on the hunt for tools that are both easy to use and won't break the bank. These markers I picked up at Target (for an amazing $15!) really hit the sweet spot. When looking for markers for beginners, I look for a few key things: Affordability: You don't want to invest a ton if you're not sure you'll stick with it. Plus, cheaper markers are great for practice! Ease of Use: They should glide smoothly and not require complex techniques to get decent results. Good Color Range: Having a variety of colors, like the black, brown, pink, purple, blue, yellow, orange, green, and red in my new set, inspires creativity from the start. One of the first things I always do with a new set of markers is create a "Swatch Page". This is seriously a game-changer! My "Swatch Page Pt. 1" and "Swatch Page Pt. 2" are already filling up my spiral-bound notebook. Why swatch? Because the color on the cap can be deceiving! Swatching helps you see the true color on paper and how it looks when layered. I usually create a small block of color and write the marker's name or number next to it. It’s like creating your own personal color library! For anyone just diving into the world of markers, here are a few quick tips I've learned: Layering is Key: Don't expect perfect coverage with one swipe. Build up your colors with light layers. Good Paper Matters: Using marker-friendly paper prevents bleeding and helps colors blend better. You'll notice a huge difference! Practice Blending: Start with two similar colors and try to blend them seamlessly. It takes practice, but it's super rewarding. Store Them Right: Keep your markers horizontal to ensure the ink is evenly distributed. My new set came in a handy black plastic case, which is perfect for this! It also helps keep them organized and protected. Some even have bilingual labels, which is a nice touch. I'm really impressed with how these markers perform for their price point. They're not professional-grade, but for sketching, coloring, and trying out new ideas, they're absolutely perfect. You don't need fancy, expensive supplies to start making art.
