A Course In Miracles Lesson 78

Let miracles replace all grievances.

🌿 A grievance is a way the mind keeps the past alive.

It returns to the memory, rehearses the story, and strengthens the belief that what happened defines what is happening now.

Sometimes those grievances are directed outward.

Toward people.

Toward systems.

Toward circumstances that shaped our lives.

Sometimes they are directed inward.

Toward mistakes we wish we could undo.

But grievances have a quiet cost. They anchor perception to yesterday.

The past is still there. But it does not sit in the center of my thinking the way it used to.

When the mind releases the need to keep replaying the grievance, perception becomes lighter.

Space appears where resentment once sat.

And in that space, something new becomes possible.

I am MovingStill.

Grievances act like mental chains, anchoring us to past hurts and negative memories that no longer serve us. When I began practicing the lesson’s core advice—to consciously choose miracles over grievances—I noticed how much lighter and freer my perception became. One key insight is that grievances not only keep the past alive, but they also block us from seeing the good that still exists in people and situations. The OCR content emphasizes that each grievance acts as a “dark shield of hate” blocking the light of miracles. This resonated with me deeply because I realized how easily my stubbornness to hold onto grievances prevented me from experiencing forgiveness and love. The lesson also suggests a practical exercise: to pick someone you have grievances with—whether out of fear, anger, or disappointment—and consciously look beyond those grievances to perceive the light or miracle in them. I tried this with a person I had long blamed for past pain, and by intentionally lifting that 'shield of hate,' I was able to experience empathy and even gratitude toward them. This shifted not only my feelings but also my mental health in a positive way. The process is not instant or easy. It requires patience, silence, and a willingness to surrender old judgments. Yet, the result is a transformation where the “space” left by resentment becomes a place for healing and new possibilities. The recognition that grievances anchor perception to yesterday helped me to stop identifying with old wounds and instead focus on the present moment’s potential for miracles. Overall, this lesson bridges spirituality and mental health by encouraging forgiveness as a path to both spiritual awakening and psychological well-being. Allowing miracles to replace grievances is not just a hopeful phrase—it’s a practical mindset shift that invites peace, freedom, and connection into everyday life.
