A Course In Miracles Lesson 126

I notice how quickly I assume what I give stays separate from me.

Lesson 126

All that I give is given to myself.

🌿 A reaction leaves my mind

and immediately feels directed outward.

A judgment.

A defense.

An expectation.

It seems like something aimed at someone else.

Their situation.

Their behavior.

Their responsibility.

But the effect doesn’t stop there.

What I extend shapes the way I experience everything afterward.

The tension stays active.

The interpretation stays active.

And then the world starts reflecting it back to me.

Not because reality changed,

but because perception organized around what I reinforced.

That’s easy to miss.

Because it feels like I’m reacting to what’s already there.

But the lesson reverses that structure.

What I give

is not separate from what I receive.

The judgment, the fear, the defense—

they remain in the mind that extends them.

So does forgiveness.

So does peace.

That’s why giving and receiving are the same here.

Not symbolically.

Structurally.

What I reinforce becomes the condition I experience through.

Today I’m paying attention to what I’m extending through interpretation and reaction.

What I keep strengthening without realizing it.

Not forcing myself to feel differently.

But recognizing that what I give does not leave me.

All that I give is given to myself.

I am MovingStill.

... Read moreIn my journey with A Course In Miracles, Lesson 126 has proven to be a transformative reminder that what we give never really leaves us. Whenever I found myself reacting with judgment or fear toward someone else, it took me some time to realize that these reactions were reflecting back into my own experience. I used to think my judgments were directed outward, something about others’ behaviors or circumstances. But this lesson helped me see that these reactions remain within my own mind and influence how I perceive the world. One of the most powerful insights from this lesson is recognizing that forgiveness is not just a charitable act given to others but a profound gift we give ourselves. Early in my practice, I struggled with the idea of forgiveness, feeling it was an uneven exchange, where I would forgive others yet see no direct benefit to myself. The OCR content from the lesson reading clarifies this misconception by explaining that giving and receiving are structurally the same. When I truly forgive, I am healing my own mind, releasing the barriers that block my peace. Reinforcing positive intentions, peace, and forgiveness creates a different condition within ourselves. This changes our perception, and subsequently, how the world reflects back to us. I find that by paying conscious attention to what I extend through my judgments or defenses, I can shift my experience significantly. Rather than forcing myself to feel differently, simply recognizing that everything I give is, in fact, given to myself encourages gentleness and awareness. Practicing this lesson twice daily—taking moments to silently repeat the idea “All that I give is given to myself”—has helped me develop a more forgiving and peaceful mindset. It is both a challenge and a gift to shift our habitual outward blame into a mindful inward reflection. This mindfulness is not about self-judgment but about understanding the interconnectedness of our thoughts and feelings with the reality we experience. If you are exploring A Course In Miracles, I recommend setting aside quiet moments where you can reflect on the notion that our interpretations and reactions fuel the conditions we live through. When I practice this, I feel more in control of my peace and less reactive to external circumstances. This practice has deepened my spirituality and sense of universal consciousness, reminding me that true healing is a shared, inward journey of giving and receiving simultaneously.
