A Course In Miracles Lesson 138
I notice how quickly I treat decisions as if there are many things to figure out.
Lesson 138
Heaven is the decision I must make.
🌿 A situation comes up
and my mind starts sorting through options.
What should I do.
What this means.
What the outcome might be.
It feels like there are multiple directions to consider.
Each one with different consequences.
So I weigh them.
Compare them.
Try to choose the best one.
But underneath all of that,
there’s a quieter assumption that I’m choosing between many real alternatives.
The lesson simplifies that completely.
It says there is only one decision being made.
Not between situations,
but between interpretations.
Between what is true
and what is not.
Everything else is variation.
Different forms of the same underlying choice.
That’s why it can feel complicated.
Because the surface keeps changing,
but the decision underneath stays the same.
The mind stays busy trying to resolve each form
without recognizing the pattern.
The lesson brings that into focus.
When the underlying choice is seen clearly,
the complexity starts to fall away.
Not because situations disappear,
but because they are no longer treated as separate problems.
Today I’m paying attention to where I feel like I have multiple decisions to make.
Where I get pulled into sorting through outcomes and possibilities.
Not forcing a conclusion.
But recognizing that something simpler is underneath it.
Heaven is the decision I must make.
I am MovingStill.

In my own journey studying A Course In Miracles, Lesson 138 has been a profound turning point. The lesson teaches that beneath the apparent complexity of life’s decisions lies a single, central choice: between what is true and what is illusion. This understanding strips away the anxiety that often accompanies decision-making, as it reveals that many options are simply variations of the same deeper choice. When I first encountered this lesson, I noticed how often I feel overwhelmed by options and possible outcomes in everyday situations. The mind races to weigh pros and cons, often neglecting the core truth underlying those choices. By focusing instead on the essence of the decision — choosing 'Heaven' as a metaphor for truth and peace — I found myself less entangled in mental confusion and more aligned with inner clarity. The notion that 'Heaven is the decision I must make' encourages me to pause and reflect before reacting impulsively. It shifts my mindset from reacting to fears or imagined consequences toward affirming what truly supports peace and well-being. The OCR text from the lesson emphasizes that the perception of many choices often masks this one foundational decision, reinforcing how recognition, not learning new knowledge, is key to acceptance and transformation. Practicing this has impacted my daily life, especially during stressful moments when multiple competing demands or fears arise. Instead of getting lost in the 'maze' of options, I remind myself to identify the core interpretation I am choosing — is it grounded in fear or in love, truth, and healing? This simple shift brings a remarkable calm and confidence, as the lesson reminds us that truth is without opposite and that choosing it inherently resolves all other smaller conflicts. Whether it’s personal relationships, career decisions, or internal struggles, applying the insight from Lesson 138 helps me recognize that beneath the surface complexity, the true choice is always about embracing peace over illusion. This course has helped me grow in spiritual awareness by teaching me to consciously select Heaven — a higher state of mind free from guilt and fear — as the foundation of every decision I make. Each day, reaffirming this choice deepens my experience of clarity and inner freedom.
