For those of you who might be new to this, commissioning art means you get a custom, one-of-a-kind piece created just for you by an artist! It's not just buying a print; it's a collaborative process where your vision meets an artist's skill. Figure Out Your Vision: What do you want? A portrait of your pet, a character design, a landscape, or something abstract? Having a clear idea (or even some reference photos!) helps a lot. Find Your Artist: Look for artists whose style you love! Each artist has a unique flair. When you see an artist announce "commissions open," that's your cue! Reach Out: Most artists will have a contact method (email, DM, or a dedicated form). Be clear about what you're looking for. Discuss Details & Pricing: This is where you talk about the specifics – size, medium, complexity, and timeframe. Artists usually have a price list or will give you a quote. Don't be afraid to ask questions! Payment & Process: Many artists require an upfront deposit. They'll usually send sketches or work-in-progress updates for your approval, ensuring you're happy every step of the way. Final Delivery: Once approved and fully paid, you get your amazing custom artwork! To My Fellow Artists: How Do You Guys Get Commissions? I've seen so many of you asking, "how do you guys get commissions?" and honestly, it's a journey!
