Finished Sculpture 🙌🏽
So I finally finished my sculpture project!! Thank god, because if yall remember the last time I talked about it… let’s just say that I didn’t think this was going to get finished.
But I am so happy with the final result, and very proud of myself for stepping out of my comfort zone with this project.
You know that feeling when a project just seems to stretch on forever, and you wonder if you'll ever see it through? That was totally me with this clay bust sculpture! For a long time, I honestly doubted if I'd ever get to this point, especially with trying to get those detailed facial features just right and wrestling with crafting realistic *curly hair*. It felt like I was constantly pushing against my own limits. But here we are! And I couldn't be happier with the final result. This whole process has been such a journey, from the initial idea swirling in my head to seeing it finally stand complete on its simple *white base*. I remember the early stages, sketching out concepts, figuring out the armature, and then slowly, painstakingly, building up the clay. Choosing the right type of clay was a whole learning curve in itself – balancing workability with durability for a piece that would last. Working in my *art studio*, surrounded by my tools and the scent of clay, truly helped me immerse myself. There were days of intense focus, meticulously shaping every curve and contour, and other days where I just needed to step back and let the piece 'breathe' a little. Getting those facial expressions and the flow of the curly hair to feel natural was probably the biggest challenge. It taught me so much about observation and patience. Every small adjustment made a huge difference. And then, the finishing touches! Adding those glasses to the bust felt like giving it a unique personality, a little wink of character that brought it fully to life. It’s amazing how a seemingly small detail can completely transform the overall feel of a sculpture. After all the shaping, drying and careful firing were nerve-wracking steps, hoping no cracks would appear. Seeing it emerge from the kiln, solid and vibrant, was such a relief and a thrill. If you're an aspiring artist, especially someone dabbling in sculpture, my biggest takeaway from this art project is to embrace the struggle. The moments of doubt and frustration are part of the creative process. Pushing yourself out of your comfort zone, trying new techniques, and even making mistakes, are where the real growth happens. This experience has deepened my appreciation for the craft of sculpting and the incredible satisfaction of bringing something tangible into existence from a lump of clay. Keep experimenting, keep creating, and don't be afraid to let your passion shine through every piece you make!
