After days of nonstop rain and gloomy weather, I needed a little happiness boost… so naturally, I spent the weekend wandering through bookstores. 🤎😊

Between two Half Price Books trips and a stop at Kindred Stories — a woman-owned and Black-owned gem — I somehow ended up with a book haul. 📚😊

Like the song “Happy Feelings” playing in the background, bookstores and stacks of books in my hands make me ridiculously happy. 🫶🏾😊

Rainy days often inspire me to slow down and indulge in one of my favorite pastimes: exploring bookstores. This weekend, after consecutive rainy days, I took two trips to Half Price Books and stopped by Kindred Stories, a remarkable woman-owned and Black-owned bookstore. This not only supported local diverse businesses but also expanded my reading horizons. From New York Times bestsellers by authors like AA Gyasi and Kennedy Ryan to gems by Ashley & JaQuavis and Jasmine Guillor, my book haul was filled with compelling stories that promise to lift spirits on any gloomy day. I find that browsing a bookstore and holding new books evokes a 'happy feelings' mood similar to the upbeat tunes I listen to while reading. If you love discovering new books during bad weather, I highly recommend seeking out independent bookstores that celebrate diversity. They often feature unique book selections and foster community connections. Plus, snagging books on a rainy day transforms the weather into an opportunity for self-care and joyful exploration. What’s your go-to comfort activity when the skies are gray? For me, it's undoubtedly a trip to local bookstores coupled with a playlist of uplifting songs.
