Rom-Com THRILLER

Book Review

Book name: The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year

Author: Ally Carter

Genre: Rom-Com Thriller

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

My review: This book is definitely a cute holiday read, however, I think you could read it anytime of year as the “Christmas” theme was very light. The book followed your typical rom-com romance but with a twist of a thrill. The book was engaging and made you want to keep reading. The ending was again, a typical feel-good rom-com ending. Cute, and would recommend if you want a fun, easy read!

... Read moreI'm always on the hunt for a good book that brings something a little different to the table, and Ally Carter’s "The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year" absolutely delivered! I picked it up looking for something light and fun, and it perfectly fit the bill. What truly caught my eye about this book, right from seeing its cover with a man and woman peeking from behind a Christmas tree, was its unique genre blend: a Rom-Com Thriller. It’s not every day you find a story that promises both heartwarming romance and a thrilling mystery, especially with a subtle festive touch. From my very first chapter, I was immersed. The author, Ally Carter, known for her captivating storytelling, truly shines here. She managed to weave a narrative that had all the feel-good elements you'd expect from a rom-com – witty banter, charming characters, and a developing relationship – but then added this unexpected layer of suspense. It wasn't a dark, gritty thriller by any means; instead, it felt more like a cozy mystery, which was a pleasant surprise. This made the "crime" aspect engaging without being overly intense, perfect for when you want a thrill without losing the lighthearted feel. While the original review mentioned it's a "cute holiday read," I completely agree that its Christmas theme is quite light, making it a fantastic choice any time of the year. I found myself engrossed during an afternoon read, feeling that blend of festive cheer and intriguing plot twists. It really is the kind of book you can curl up with on a rainy day or take to the beach. The pacing was spot on, constantly propelling me forward, eager to uncover the next piece of the puzzle while also rooting for the characters’ romantic journey. Seriously, it's one of those books that leaves you with a smile on your face and a satisfied sigh. If you're a fan of authors who can expertly juggle multiple genres, or if you're just looking for an "easy read" that still offers a clever plot, then "The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year" is a must-add to your reading list. It’s got that charming, feel-good ending that leaves you with a warm fuzzy feeling, while also satisfying your craving for a touch of intrigue. Trust me, you won't regret diving into this one!
