Let it all work out.
This wasn’t how I pictured it. I thought I’d have the birth I planned for, the one I’d spent months preparing for in my head and heart. Instead, at 39 weeks, we were induced because my baby was measuring in the 98th percentile, and because after July 1st, my insurance would no longer cover the doctor I’d trusted my whole pregnancy. It breaks my heart how easily insurance can disrupt something so sacred. (I’ll share more about that soon.)
We checked into the hospital on a Sunday evening, hopeful and nervous. We started the induction that night, and by the next day, I was still laboring — for more than 24 hours. When I finally got my epidural, I thought relief was around the corner. Instead, I was told my body wasn’t progressing. This was nature’s way of telling us it wasn’t safe to keep trying. I was going to have a c-section.
I was terrified. I hadn’t prepared for this, and fear wrapped around me like a tight blanket. But deep down, I reminded myself: this was how I’d finally meet my baby. After 9 long months of carrying her, dreaming of her, she was almost here.
I will never stop being grateful for the doctors and nurses who cared for us with such skill and kindness. When she arrived, we learned she had her cord tied in a perfect knot, a silent danger we never knew was there. Knowing she made it here safely feels nothing short of miraculous.
She is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. Recovery has been harder than I imagined, painful and slow. But every ache, every tear, is worth it. Because she’s here. She’s perfect. And I’d do it all again for her. 💗
