Book Review Rating: 4/5

The Coworker was a good read however I have the ability to figure things out quickly with books and movies so it was predictable to me. I would definitely recommend it, it was very creative. The ending did catch me off guard a little which satisfied me because I was able to figure out most of it. #readratedandreviewed #BookReview #thecoworker

... Read moreSo, I wanted to dive a little deeper into my thoughts on Freida McFadden's 'The Coworker' after my initial 4/5 rating. When I picked up this book, I was immediately drawn in by the intriguing cover – that stark image of an elevator, a red high heel, and those blood splatters really set a chilling tone right from the start. It immediately signals you're in for a workplace thriller, and McFadden certainly delivers on that promise. For those curious about the plot, 'The Coworker' plunges you into the seemingly mundane world of a corporate office. The story primarily follows Dawn, an accountant, whose life takes a dark turn when her seemingly perfect and popular coworker, Natalie, doesn't show up for work one day. What unfolds is a tangled web of secrets, past grievances, and an investigation that makes you question everyone's motives. It's not the typical 'lived in the same house with a colleague' or 'young woman leaves her job to help a colleague she has feelings for' kind of plot you might find trending; instead, it's a much darker, psychological exploration of workplace dynamics and revenge. Regarding the age rating, I'd definitely place 'The Coworker' in the adult thriller category. While it doesn't have overtly graphic scenes, the themes of psychological manipulation, corporate bullying, and the consequences of past actions are mature. It's not something I'd recommend for younger teens, but perfect for adults who enjoy a good suspense novel. One thing Freida McFadden is known for is her twists, and 'The Coworker' is no exception. As I mentioned in my quick review, I often find myself figuring out plot points in thrillers, and some elements here did feel a bit predictable to me. However, that didn't detract from my enjoyment. McFadden has a way of crafting characters and situations that keep you turning pages, even if you suspect where things might be headed. And truly, the very end did have a specific reveal that genuinely caught me off guard, which is always satisfying for a seasoned thriller reader! If you're a fan of Freida McFadden's other works, like 'The Housemaid' or even if you've heard whispers about her 'turtle book' (which is a different story altogether, but showcases her range!), you'll likely appreciate her signature style here. She excels at building suspense, weaving in unexpected perspectives, and delivering those 'aha!' moments. This book is a quick, engaging read that will keep you guessing and second-guessing until the very last page. It’s a solid choice if you’re looking for a clever, twisty thriller that explores the darker side of professional relationships.
