8 week loc update! ✨
I kept my sew-in for 1 month. I thought it would be a disaster once I took it out but it wasn’t. It was actually easy separating the locs from each other. It was way better and quicker than detangling loose natural hair. I did my first re-twist on my own. I was going back and forth on if I should interlock or not. I went with the traditional retwist method and I’m so happy with how it came out. 😊
Wow, it's already been 8 weeks since I embarked on my loc journey, and I’m so thrilled with how my first retwist turned out! It feels amazing to see my small starter locs taking shape. After separating them from my sew-in, I was a bit nervous about doing the retwist myself, but it was much easier than I anticipated. Seeing my neatly retwisted locs and scalp looking so fresh really motivated me for the road ahead. Many of you might be wondering, like I was, about the long-term commitment. While I’m only 8 weeks in, I’m already dreaming of reaching that "6 year loc journey" milestone, and I’ve been doing tons of research on what to expect. For women especially, starter locs are such a beautiful statement, and choosing small starter locs was a deliberate decision for me. I love their versatility and the delicate look they offer, even at this early stage. They feel lighter and allow for more intricate styles as they grow, which is something I’m really looking forward to. One of the biggest concerns for me, and I’m sure for other women with small starter locs, is maintaining them without causing damage or making them thin. After my first retwist, I realized the importance of a gentle touch. I've learned that keeping them moisturized is key – I use a light mist daily to keep my scalp hydrated and my locs from drying out. Protecting them at night with a silk scarf or bonnet is also non-negotiable; it really helps to prevent lint and frizz, which can be more noticeable with smaller locs. As my locs continue to mature past this initial "starter" phase, I know I'll be entering the "budding" stage, where they start to thicken and interlock more. This is where patience truly becomes a virtue! I've heard stories from women who are years into their loc journey about how the process teaches you so much about self-acceptance and embracing natural beauty. They say the "teenage" phase can be a bit wild, with locs having a mind of their own, but that’s all part of the unique beauty of it. For those of us with small starter locs, styling might seem limited at first, but even at 8 weeks, I've found simple ways to feel put-together. A half-up, half-down style or a few pinned-back locs can make a huge difference. As they grow, I’m excited to experiment more with updos, braids, and even ponytails. I saw a picture of a woman with locs, rocking a plaid shirt and gold hoop earrings, and her locs looked absolutely stunning – it really inspired me to think about future styles and how locs beautifully complement personal style. This journey is more than just hair; it’s about embracing a natural aesthetic and celebrating growth, both literally and figuratively. If you're a woman considering small starter locs, or you're just starting out like me, remember that consistency and patience are your best friends. Every retwist, every wash day, every moment is part of building that beautiful "6 year loc journey" you envision. I’m eager to share more updates as my locs mature!

Your retwist looks amazing. I was too afraid to give myself a retwist when I first locd up.
