Letting go of a family member
Today my husband and I said goodbye to the start of our story, Bazil.
August 19, 2016, I saw a dog wondering around my neighborhood just have a grand old time by herself. I could see there was a tag on her collar, and knowing me, I would want someone to help my dog if she was lost.
So I called her towards me and she came happily wagging her tail and then trying to give me kisses while I’m trying to get the number off the tag.
Dialed the number, and the most charming voice came through on the other side of the phone. And the rest was history.
This girl kept coming to me repeatedly, I guess she knew what she was doing when she played matchmaker.
Rest easy, sweet girl. Don’t worry, I’ll take good care of your daddy for you. We miss you so much, I love you.

Letting go of a family member, especially a beloved pet, can be an incredibly emotional experience. Losing a dog like Bazil evokes a deep sense of grief, as they are not just pets but cherished family members. To aid in coping with this loss, it’s essential to commemorate their life. Consider creating a memory box filled with photos, favorite toys, and letters expressing your love and memories. This acts as a tangible way to reflect on the joy they brought into your life. In addition, joining support groups, either online or in-person, can provide comfort as you share your feelings with those who understand similar experiences. Engaging in activities that you both enjoyed, like walking in the park or playing fetch, can also help you cherish and celebrate your time together. Remember, grief doesn’t follow a linear path; it’s entirely normal to have ups and downs, and honoring your pet’s memory can facilitate healing. Lastly, consider the idea of a paw print art piece. These keepsakes serve as a beautiful reminder that they will always have a special place in your heart.
