... Read moreHey fellow snack creators! After whipping up a batch of these super fun Frankenstein Krispies, I realized there's so much more you can do to make them extra special, especially if you're thinking about parties or getting the kids involved.
First off, let's talk about getting those perfect green rectangles. While the recipe suggests a 9x13 pan, I've found that pressing the mixture into a slightly smaller square pan (like an 8x8) can give you thicker, sturdier 'Frankenstein heads,' which are easier for little hands to decorate. Just be sure to adjust your cutting amount to get the desired number of treats. And don't be afraid to use a cookie cutter for different shapes if rectangles aren't quite your style – ghost or pumpkin cutters would be adorable too!
Decorating is where the real fun begins! While our recipe calls for classic chocolate 'hair,' candy eyes, and black gel icing for mouths and scars, don't limit yourself! For the hair, you could also melt white chocolate and add a few drops of black food coloring for a different texture, or even use black licorice strings for a more stringy, wild look. Sprinkles are always a hit – green and black sprinkles can add an extra festive touch to the 'hair' or even sprinkled lightly over the green body before it sets. Ever thought about giving your Frankenstein monsters different expressions? Use different sized candy eyes or even draw on eyebrows with your black gel icing to create grumpy, surprised, or silly faces. A little red gel icing can make for some truly gruesome (but delicious!) scar details.
These 'edible cereal' creations are fantastic for involving kids in the kitchen. My little ones absolutely love pressing the mixture into the pan (with clean hands, of course!) and especially getting creative with the decorations. It’s a wonderful way to spend quality time together and encourage their creativity. Just make sure to have all your decorating components ready once the treats are cool and cut, as things can get a little messy (in the best way!).
Thinking about serving these at a party or sending them to school? Once your Frankenstein Krispies are fully set and decorated, they store really well in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3-4 days. You can even individually wrap them in clear treat bags tied with a ribbon for a cute party favor or a hygienic classroom snack. Just make sure the chocolate 'hair' and icing are completely dry before wrapping to prevent smudging.
And beyond Frankenstein, once you master this basic 'how to make edible cereal treats' method, the possibilities are endless! Imagine turning these into spooky ghost shapes with white chocolate and black icing, or even pumpkin shapes with orange food coloring. It's such a versatile base for almost any holiday or theme. These simple no-bake cereal creations are always a crowd-pleaser and a fantastic way to add a homemade touch to any celebration!
Yay, something to try with some of my Great grandkids! Thanks 😊
