Book Review: Hatchki Supernal

I am honored to have been an ARC reader for this amazing book!

Hatchki Supernal By: Rafaela Ribio

(5/5! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)

I really did not know what to expect from this book and it blew my mind in the best possible ways and y’all it’s her DEBUT NOVEL! The way the author builds the primitive dystopian (I would say) post apocalyptic type world and the rough around the edges characters is just fantastic. I could see everything play out like a movie as I read, it is just so well written. I can see this becoming a movie, or better yet a kickass anime/manga series! I loved that there are multiple characters to follow along with and you build a relationship with each of them individually. My anxiety for the safety of each of them through this entire book was so high! I also loved the possible love triangle between Chichuba, Huhkhan & Maz. I enjoyed the fact that the author doesn’t shy away from really heavy issues like death, and women’s oppression. This book kept me entranced and I didn’t want to put it down. I want more! I’m so excited that this is a series because WOW and again ITS HER FIRST BOOK! 🤯

... Read moreOkay, fellow bookworms, I have to talk more about Hatchki Supernal. My initial review barely scratched the surface of Rafaela Ribio’s incredible debut. If you’re like me and constantly searching for a new read that truly builds an immersive experience, stop scrolling now, because this is it. What truly blew me away was the primitive dystopian, post-apocalyptic world Rafaela Ribio crafted. It’s not just a backdrop; it’s a living, breathing entity. The raw descriptions of a land teeming with 'terrifying monsters' and the constant threat of danger make every page feel 'action packed/lots of gore' – but in the best way possible. This isn't your typical clean-cut dystopia; it's brutal, imaginative, and utterly unique. The author's ability to 'build' this environment from the ground up, making it both alien and terrifyingly real, is phenomenal. You can almost feel the grit and desolation, making you genuinely fear for the characters' survival. Her world-building is so strong, it sets the perfect stage for the intense narrative that unfolds. Beyond the world itself, Rafaela Ribio excels at 'building' characters you deeply care about. You follow multiple perspectives, and I found myself forming a strong bond with each one. The emotional stakes are incredibly high! And speaking of stakes, the potential 'love triangle' between Chichuba, Huhkhan, and Maz? Absolutely captivating. It adds another layer of tension and humanity to an already brutal existence. The way these relationships are woven into the larger struggle against oppression and survival is just masterful. It made me feel so invested, wondering who would make it and what choices they would face in this harsh 'postapocalyptic primitive dystopian world.' One aspect I particularly appreciated was how Rafaela Ribio doesn't shy away from heavy issues. Death, survival, and the profound struggles of women in this harsh world are explored with unflinching honesty. It’s not just 'action packed/lots of gore' for shock value; it serves to highlight the difficult realities and resilience of the characters. This thematic 'build' gives the story a weight and resonance that stays with you long after the final page. For those of us who appreciate a good book cover – and let's be honest, we all judge a book by its cover sometimes – the imagery for Hatchki Supernal is just as striking. The 'blue and orange flames' on the cover, mentioned in the OCR, perfectly capture the intensity and passion within the pages. This book feels so cinematic, you can easily picture it unfolding on screen. The author’s descriptive power is so strong that it paints a vivid picture, making you feel completely immersed. It’s the kind of story that truly transports you, making you forget where you are and pulling you deep into its world. Seriously, if you're looking for a new series that will grip you from the start and redefine what a debut novel can achieve, dive into Hatchki Supernal. Rafaela Ribio has truly 'built' something special here, and I'm beyond excited for the next installment. Don't miss out on this incredible journey into a world filled with 'terrifying monsters' and unforgettable heroes!
