This book is pure mood.
Dark, atmospheric, and beautifully unsettling, The Hollow Gods pulls you into a world inspired by Slavic folklore that feels both ancient and hauntingly alive. The writing is incredibly visual and impactful. I could see every shadow, every forest, every eerie detail unfolding.
And Kai? The broody wolf shapeshifter with the sharp tongue? I absolutely loved him. His sarcastic banter added the perfect edge against the heavier, more mysterious tone of the story.
One of my favorite elements was the use of three POVs. Each voice felt distinct, with its own rhythm and emotional weight. It was never confusing…the author crafted each perspective so intentionally that you could immediately feel the tonal shift between them.
This is also one of those stories where you won’t have everything spelled out for you and that’s very much on purpose. There are unanswered questions. There’s ambiguity. You’re meant to sit in the mystery. And honestly? I appreciated that.
The only reason this was a 4-star read for me instead of 5 is that it had a slower start before I fully settled into the world. But once it hooked me, it hooked me.
I also really respected how the romance bloomed between the two main characters without relying on heavy spice to carry it. The connection felt intentional and true to the tone of the story…subtle, atmospheric, and earned.
