I love a dopamine food, but having ADHD (for me) means keeping my sugar intake low.

so these are some of my very favorite snacks that are much lower in sugar but give me the feeling I crave :)

It's not just about satisfying hunger; it's about supporting focus, managing energy levels, and avoiding those dreaded sugar crashes. Like many of us, I often crave that 'dopamine hit' from food, but I've learned that sugary treats are a short-term fix with long-term consequences for my concentration. That's why I'm always on the lookout for easy, healthy, and genuinely satisfying ADHD-friendly snack ideas that keep me feeling good without the sugar overload. One of my top tips is to prioritize protein and healthy fats. These nutrients help stabilize blood sugar, providing sustained energy and supporting brain function. For instance, I've become a huge fan of savory options like oven-baked parmesan cheese crisps. They're incredibly satisfying with their crunchy texture and rich flavor, offering a great protein boost without excess carbs. Similarly, chicken skin crisps – especially the hot Nashville seasoned ones – are a game-changer. They offer a fantastic crunch, plenty of protein, and very little sugar, making them perfect for those savory cravings. Another category that works wonders for me are plant-based options that still pack a punch. Cauliflower pretzels twists, for example, are a delicious gluten-free and non-GMO alternative when you want something salty and crunchy. They’re much lighter than traditional pretzels but still hit the spot. And who said healthy snacks couldn't be fun? I’ve found some amazing plant-based sour gummy candy that uses natural fruit flavors like guava, ume, and calamansi lime. With only 3g of sugar, they give that sensory pop without derailing my focus. There are even options like sour blue raspberry strips with 80% less sugar, proving you don't have to give up your favorite treats completely. Portion control and convenience are also key for ADHD snacking. If a snack is too complicated to prepare or too large, I’m less likely to choose it. That’s why individually portioned items or quick grab-and-go options are brilliant. Things like granola minis can be great, especially if you find lower-sugar versions or pair them with a protein source like Greek yogurt. And for those moments when you need something more substantial but still convenient, protein chips (like the chicken and waffles flavor I love, with 10g protein) are a fantastic way to feel full and satisfied. They often use real ingredients, providing more nutritional value than typical chips. Beyond specific products, think about the three Cs: Crunch, Creamy, and Chewy. ADHD brains often benefit from varied sensory input. Pairing a crunchy snack with something creamy (like apple slices with peanut butter) or having a chewy option can be very grounding. Always keep a variety of these low-sugar, high-protein, or fiber-rich snacks easily accessible. Prepare little snack bags at the start of the week, or keep a designated "ADHD snack drawer" in your fridge or pantry. This way, when hunger strikes or boredom sets in, you’re less likely to reach for less ideal, sugary options. Remember, it's all about finding what works best for your brain and body to support your focus and well-being throughout the day.

Since i have ADHD & fibromyalgia, herniated disc, and Sciatica I have to follow the fibromyalgia diet, extremely strictly and so that basically means literally just eating veggies pretty much and chicken, and ground turkey and regular turkey of course! So I’m not supposed to have soooo many things including sugar and with anxiety and fibromyalgia medication you can gain weight drastically and so one of my favorite go to snack snacks is celery! Or those steamable’s broccoli bags from Walmart, you pop it in the microwave and bam you have fresh steamed broccoli! And you can mix that in with some chicken and I used to add Alfredo- but cheese and dairy are gigantic no-no’s😭 it’s crazy because I’ve also found some absolutely amazing healthy snacks at Dollar tree that are non-GMO, gluten-free all that kind of stuff! If I think of anything else, I will let you know!🥰
