Lake fun with the Grands😘🥰😍
After our last trip to Lake Carroll, where 3 of my 5 grandbabies had the absolute best time, I realized just how much there is to do for families looking for fun outdoor activities. It’s not just a lake; it’s a whole adventure waiting to happen! If you’re planning a visit, especially with little ones, here are some of our favorite things to do that I think you’ll love too. First off, swimming is a must! The water at Lake Carroll is usually so refreshing, perfect for a hot summer day. We found a lovely little beach area that was shallow enough for the younger ones to splash around safely, but always remember those life vests – safety first! The older grandkids loved diving and playing games in the deeper parts. It’s amazing how much energy they burn just by playing in the water. We usually pack a big picnic lunch and make a whole afternoon out of it. Another huge hit was boating and paddleboarding. You can often find places to rent kayaks, canoes, or paddleboards right by the lake. This was a fantastic way to explore the quieter coves and even spot some local wildlife. My grandbabies, especially the more adventurous ones, really enjoyed learning how to paddle. It’s a great way to get a different perspective of the lake and enjoy some peaceful moments on the water. We saw a few ducks and even a heron during our last paddle! And speaking of peaceful moments, fishing is always a classic. Lake Carroll is known for its good fishing, and there’s nothing quite like the excitement of a grandkid catching their first fish. Even if they don't catch anything, the patience and quiet observation are wonderful for them. We brought along some simple rods and bait, and spent a relaxing morning by the shore. It's not just about the catch; it’s about spending quality time together, teaching them about nature, and enjoying the tranquility. Beyond the water, don't forget the hiking and walking trails! Lake Carroll has some beautiful paths that are perfect for a family stroll. We picked an easy, relatively flat trail that wound through some wooded areas. It was a great opportunity for the grandbabies to collect interesting leaves, spot different kinds of trees, and just enjoy being surrounded by nature. We even turned it into a little scavenger hunt, looking for specific things like a feather, a smooth rock, or a unique flower. Finally, for something a bit different, consider stargazing. If you’re staying overnight or can visit after sunset, the clear skies over Lake Carroll can offer an incredible view of the stars. It’s magical to lie on a blanket with the grandkids, pointing out constellations and sharing stories. We brought thermos of hot chocolate, which made the experience even cozier. No matter what you choose, remember to pack essentials like sunscreen, plenty of water, and snacks. Lake Carroll offers so many opportunities for fun outdoor activities, and watching my grandbabies laugh and explore there truly warms my heart. It’s a place where amazing family memories are just waiting to be made!
