Day-In-The-Life: DIY Chronicles

Listen…. all I wanted to do was tighten ONE little faucet and mind my business. ONE. SIMPLE. TASK. 😌🛠️

Next thing you know, I’m in my own episode of “Fix It Felix, PLEASE” and the kitchen is auditioning for a bubble bath commercial. Bubbles everywhere. On the stove, in the sink, floating through the air like it was the grand finale at Disney.

I watched ONE YouTube video and suddenly thought I was a certified plumber. Why y’all didn’t stop me?! 😩🤣

The wrench said “Sis, be serious” and the faucet said “BET — let’s flood this whole kitchen.”

Meanwhile, my family is just standing there in the doorway looking at me like I’m a toddler who found the baby powder 🙃 They ain’t helping….they judging softly and praying LOUDLY 😂

Moral of the story?

Everything ain’t a YouTube University assignment. Some things require prayer, patience, and a professional plumber — in that order!

But did I learn my lesson? Probably not. Stay tuned. Next week I’ll be “installing” a light fixture with my highly trained YouTube education 😂

... Read moreDIY home repairs can be both rewarding and frustrating, especially when things don't go as planned—like the infamous kitchen flood gone viral in this story. Many of us dive into YouTube tutorials, feeling confident after one or two videos, only to realize that some tasks require more than just enthusiasm and a wrench. Plumbing, in particular, demands careful attention because even small mistakes can lead to unexpected consequences such as leaks or floods. The phrase captured in the image, "OMG, what did I do?", perfectly encapsulates the moment of realization when a DIY project spirals out of control. This situation is far from unique—millions of home improvers have faced similar challenges. It's a gentle reminder that while online tutorials offer great guidance, balancing patience, prayer, and professional help is often the best approach. Before starting any plumbing task like tightening faucets, consider turning off the main water supply, gathering all the proper tools, and assessing your skill level honestly. If the job seems too complex or you notice any swelling bubbles or water buildup, it's prudent to stop and call a licensed plumber. Also, engaging your family during these moments can add humor and support, though as seen here, their reactions range from judging to praying loudly, which many homeowners will relate to. In summary, DIY adventures are part of home life, but tackling plumbing projects requires respect for the complexity involved. Learning from each mishap—including this bubbly kitchen flood—can prepare you better for future endeavors like light fixture installation, hopefully with fewer surprises.
