Bible Study Reality 📝

I want to be real in this community. I know, I post pretty notes I’ve made in Canva and my photos have filters. But here’s the reality…

This is what Bible study looks like to me. Unfiltered reality. My hand writing isn’t the best, my dogs have toys spread out all over the floor, all my study materials in my lap, and my coffee is a bit too cold because I forgot about it during my study.

I think we get in the habit of only sharing “aesthetically pleasing” photos, pretty handwritten notes, Bible journaling in beautiful colors, etc. I think it’s fun and can be great sometimes. However, God calls us to be PRESENT! He doesn’t want us worrying about every little detail that does NOT matter! “But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” ‭‭Luke‬ ‭10‬:‭41‬-‭42‬. I want to remember this story when I’m worried about how pretty my notes are and how aesthetically pleasing my page can be. Jesus doesn’t care, as long as I’m present with him 💜

... Read moreIt's so easy to get caught up in the idea of a perfect christian bible study setup, isn't it? I know I've been there, scrolling through gorgeous feeds, feeling like my own bible study at home isn't 'enough.' But honestly, my most impactful moments with God happen in the most realistic bible study scenes – sometimes with my open notebook with handwritten notes spread out, a trusty purple pen in hand, and my open Bible with book tabs beside a half-finished mug that probably should say 'NAMAST'AY HOME WITH MY DOGS' because that's often my reality! It’s all part of my unfiltered approach to spiritual reflection. If you, like me, are looking for ways to deepen your christian bible study without the pressure of perfection, let me share a few approaches I've found helpful. You don't need a fancy setup to truly engage with God's Word. One simple method I love is Observation, Interpretation, Application (OIA). It's straightforward: Observe: What does the text actually say? Who is speaking? To whom? What are the key words and phrases? Interpret: What does this passage mean in its original context? What was the author trying to convey? Apply: How does this truth speak to my life today? How can I prove by the way I live that I'm truly understanding and embracing this? This is where passages like 'i can do all things through christ' (Philippians 4:13) really come alive – it's not just a feel-good verse, but a call to action powered by faith. Another great way to make your study personal is through bible journaling, but not necessarily the artistic kind (unless that's your thing!). For me, bible journaling is simply writing down my thoughts, prayers, questions, and insights directly in a journal or even in the margins of my Bible. It helps me process what I'm reading and makes it far more interactive than just passively reading. Sometimes I'll focus on a particular book, like doing a Matthew 15 devotional, and just write down every thought that comes to mind about Jesus' teachings on true defilement versus outward appearance. It brings the text to life in a way that feels unique to my journey. And speaking of making it personal, don't forget the power of Topical Study. If something specific is weighing on your heart, or you have a question about how faith applies to a certain area of life, follow that thread! For example, wanting to explain Romans 15:13 ("May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit") can lead you down a beautiful path of exploring hope, joy, and peace throughout scripture. This kind of focused bible education can be incredibly enriching and directly applicable to your daily walk. Finally, just embracing the simple pleasure of coffee and bibles on your couch, or wherever you feel most comfortable, is a method in itself. It's about creating a sacred space that works for *you*, not for Instagram. Whether your bible study at home involves digging deep into theology or simply reflecting on a single verse, remember that God desires your presence and an open heart far more than perfect penmanship or a spotless desk. It’s in these real, unglamorous moments that true spiritual growth often happens.
