Matthew 7:13-14 🩵

Day 10: Matthew 7:13-14

”You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way. But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it."

Notes from my Bible:

This does not mean it is difficult to become a Christian but that there is only one way to eternal life with God and that only a few decide to walk that road. Living his way may not be popular, but it is true and right.

My Notes:

I think sometimes I forget that just because I live with Jesus doesn't mean life will be easy. LIFE IS HARD! But I'm thankful for Jesus being with me through it all!

... Read moreContinuing my reflections for this March Bible Study, Day 10 led me deep into Matthew 7:13-14, a passage that always makes me pause and think. The imagery of the 'narrow gate' and the 'broad road' is so vivid, isn't it? When I first read it, my immediate thought was about how hard it must be to be a Christian, almost like God is making it difficult on purpose. But as I've chewed on it, and especially reflecting on my own journey, I’ve realized it's less about difficulty for difficulty's sake, and more about exclusivity and *intentionality*. The original text states, "You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way. But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it." This isn't saying God wants it to be hard to find Him. Instead, it's a profound declaration that there's only one true path to eternal life, and that's through Jesus. Just like the verse implies, it’s not about finding a secret formula or performing impossible feats; it's about accepting the grace offered through Christ. So, if entering isn't necessarily 'difficult' in the sense of earning it, what about the 'road is difficult' part? This is where my personal experience really resonates. Living a life surrendered to Christ, walking that 'narrow path,' means saying no to many things the world champions. It means choosing love when hatred is easier, forgiveness when bitterness feels justified, and humility when pride puffs us up. It means living counter-culturally, which can feel incredibly isolating at times. I’ve definitely felt that tension – wanting to fit in, but knowing my true calling is to stand out for Christ. This can involve facing misunderstanding, ridicule, or even opposition. It's not a path for the faint of heart, but it's genuinely the most rewarding. The 'broad road,' on the other hand, seems so inviting. It’s popular, accommodating, and requires little effort. It promises immediate gratification and societal acceptance. But as the verse warns, it ultimately leads to destruction. This isn't about judging others, but about understanding the consequences of our choices. It’s a wake-up call to examine which path we are truly on. Am I drifting along with the current, or am I intentionally swimming against it towards God's truth? This passage from Matthew 7:13-14 isn't meant to discourage us, but to clarify the stakes. It reminds me that while life with Jesus is hard sometimes, it’s also filled with His unwavering presence and strength. He doesn't promise an easy journey, but He does promise to walk with us every step of the way, providing comfort and guidance. Choosing the narrow gate is choosing Jesus, choosing truth, and choosing eternal life. It's a daily commitment, but one that leads to true freedom and joy beyond what any 'broad road' could ever offer.
