2007: Jodi Preis, the founder of the Tennessee-based pit bull rescue and education group Bless the Bullys, established National Pit Bull Awareness Day. The nationwide event was founded to educate the public and restore the image of the American Pit Bull Terrier, which had been negatively impacted by decades of bad press.
