... Read moreAs an OFW (Overseas Filipino Worker) living in Singapore, I've often found myself reaching moments in life where I end up talking to myself. This isn't just idle chatter; it's a form of self-reflection and emotional processing that helps me cope with the complexities of being away from home. Living abroad comes with unique challenges: loneliness, homesickness, and the pressure to succeed while supporting family back home. I've realized that having conversations in my head—or even out loud sometimes—allows me to sort through my thoughts and feelings. It’s like having a private counselor who understands my struggles and helps me stay grounded. This habit of self-talk has been both comforting and empowering. When I feel overwhelmed, I pause and ask myself if I'm truly okay, just like the phrase "Ok ka lang ba self?" suggests. It’s a reminder to acknowledge my emotional state and give myself permission to rest or seek support when needed. Furthermore, embracing these moments encourages mindfulness, reducing stress and improving mental clarity. For fellow OFWs facing similar experiences, I encourage you to embrace your inner dialogues as a normal and healthy way to navigate life abroad. Remember, self-reflection is not a sign of weakness but a testament to our resilience and commitment to personal growth, even when miles away from our loved ones.
