Make a new highlighter powder with me!

After successfully reviving my broken highlighters, I've become a huge fan of makeup repair! It’s not just about saving money; it’s about giving new life to beloved products and creating something truly unique. If you've got a favorite 'discontinued highlighter' or a 'broken highlighter powder' that just shattered, don't despair! You can absolutely transform it into a gorgeous 'newly pressed highlighter powder' that's perfect for a custom glow. First things first, gather your tools. You'll need a clean, empty compact (my 'cleaned black compact' was perfect!), a 'spatula' or small mixing tool, rubbing alcohol (preferably 91% or 99% isopropyl alcohol), and something to press with – a 'roller tool' or even the back of a spoon works wonders. Don't forget 'parchment paper' to place over the powder before pressing. You'll also need a clean surface to work on, maybe a small bowl or a piece of wax paper if you're mixing a significant amount. Once you have your 'broken up powders' – whether it's a 'light gray powder' or a 'bronze-colored powder' – gently crush them into an even finer consistency. The finer the powder, the smoother your final product will be. I like to use a small pestle and mortar for this, or even the back of my spatula, making sure there are no large chunks remaining. Combine your desired shades in the empty 'silver compact' or a separate mixing dish. This is where you get to play chemist and create your perfect 'mixed bronze and gray powders' shade! You can even add a touch of loose pigment if you want to alter the color or intensity. Now for the magic ingredient: rubbing alcohol. Add it a few drops at a time, mixing with your 'spatula' until you get a thick, paste-like consistency. It should be wet enough to spread but not soupy. The alcohol acts as a binder, holding the powder together. Once mixed, carefully transfer the paste into your compact, ensuring it's evenly distributed. Then, lay a piece of 'parchment paper' over it. This is crucial! Using your 'roller tool' or the back of a spoon, 'press the spatula down' firmly and evenly. The goal is to compact the powder as much as possible, squeezing out any excess alcohol. I usually press, dab the paper with a tissue to absorb more alcohol, and then press again multiple times until it feels solid and all the air bubbles are removed. Leave your newly pressed powder to dry completely for at least 24-48 hours. Don't rush this step, or it might crumble! The alcohol will evaporate, leaving behind your beautiful, custom highlighter. I've even experimented with adding a tiny pinch of cosmetic-grade glitter for an extra sparkly 'glittery residue' effect, or mixing different textures to create a more multi-dimensional glow. You can do this with any 'broken up powders' – blushes, bronzers, or even your 'urban decay eyeshadow palette' that turned to dust, just like I plan to do next! The satisfaction of seeing a 'pile of light gray powder' or 'bronze-colored powder' transform into a cohesive, usable product in a 'black compact' is immense. It's a fantastic way to extend the life of your makeup collection and indulge your creative side.
