I’m Tired of Re-Explaining This

If your team “understands” but still struggles with objections or never quite ramps after onboarding… is it really a talent issue, or is something not sticking in the system? There’s a difference between learning and actually executing, and most teams feel it.

... Read moreFrom my experience working with sales teams across various industries, I've noticed that the biggest hurdle isn't just training but what happens afterward—the actual execution of skills learned. Many teams grasp concepts during onboarding but falter when faced with real customer objections. This gap often stems from insufficient reinforcement of enablement skills, such as moving conversations forward by uncovering the real concerns beneath surface objections. What really helped the teams I worked with was focusing on specific objection-handling techniques: advising with relevance, discovering the true pain points, reflecting the customer’s viewpoint, and acknowledging concerns without defensiveness. Practicing these skills regularly in role-plays and real scenarios made them stick beyond initial learning. Moreover, onboarding programs that create a seamless experience—from welcome to learning, connecting, contributing, and growing—build stronger foundations. Enabling new hires to apply tools and feedback early empowers them to solve problems and collaborate effectively sooner. This progression fosters better clarity and communication, which directly impacts sales success. Incorporating leadership playbooks centered on clear conversations, intentional listening, and impactful leadership also accelerates team growth. Ultimately, bridging the gap between learning and execution requires ongoing enablement efforts, not just one-time training sessions. Teams that embrace this continuous development approach become more confident in handling objections and driving deals forward effectively.
