As someone who has gradually learned the importance of nervous system regulation, I can attest to how transformative these simple practices truly are, especially for Black women entrepreneurs navigating additional ancestral trauma layers. The point about working with the same nervous system that our enslaved ancestors had deeply resonated with me. Their survival mode was essential for their reality, but it keeps many of us wired for constant production and threat response, even when those threats no longer exist. This leaves the nervous system stuck in overdrive, making true rest and receiving challenging. What helped me was starting small—consciously slowing down moments where I would usually rush, like sipping coffee or walking between meetings. It was hard at first, as my body pushed back into that 'always on' mode. Rubbing my arms or gently massaging my hands became a calming ritual to signal safety to my nervous system. It’s a very tangible way of communicating with the body that rest is allowed. Scheduling rest isn’t just about blocking time; building a habit that lets your body anticipate and accept rest is critical. At first, my nervous system protested, but with consistency, those minutes became restorative rather than anxiety-provoking. These techniques don't replace mindset shifts or affirmations but complement them powerfully by addressing the body’s core survival wiring. Integrating nervous system regulation felt like unlocking a foundation for growth, creativity, and manifestation that I hadn’t accessed before.
