6 Books read in February

I did pretty well for how many books I read this past month, however I'm still two books behind being on track of my reading goal of 2026. I was on track for a day lol!

Prime Deceptions

Valerie Valdes

Captain Eva Innocente and the crew of La Sirena Negra find themselves once again at the edge of space and at the center of a raging covert war. When Eva's sister asks her for help to find a missing scientist, she reluctantly agrees despite the lingering trust issues. With the help of her estranged mother, Eva and her crew follow the trail all over the galaxy and end up at the last place Eva wants to go -Garilia- the place where she experienced her greatest failure. To complete her mission, Eva must navigate a paradise embroiled in a rebellion, where massive forests and pristine beaches hide psychic creatures and pervasive surveillance technology. Can she find her quarry while avoiding the oppressive local regime, or will she be doomed to repeat past mistakes when her dark deeds come to light?

Summer's End

Juneau Black

In this Shady Hollow mystery, Vera Vixen agrees to chaperone the school's annual field trip to Summer's End, an ancient tomb built by an early woodland culture. Naturally her good friend Lenore Lee comes along to help her. But when the group enters the tomb one morning, they find a corpse that is distinctly more modern than expected. Digging deeper, Vera and Lenore discover the deceased was involved in the recent excavation at the site, and very unpopular with their colleagues -including Lenore's sister, Ligeia. Now the fox and Raven must delve into the dark world of the academia and archeology to clear Ligeia's name. Can Vera and Lenore unearth the truth in time?

The Hunger Games

Suzanne Collins

Katniss is a sixteen year old girl living with her mother and younger sister in the poorest district in Panem, the remains of what used to be the United States. Long ago the districts waged war on the Capitol and were defeated. As part of the surrender terms, each district agreed to send one boy and one girl to appear in an annual televised event called "The Hunger Games". The terrain, rules, and level of audience participation may change, but one thing is constant: kill or be killed. When Kat's sister is chosen by lottery, she steps up to go in her place.

Network Effect

Martha Wells

When Murderbot's human associates (not friends, never friends) are captured and another not friend from its past requires urgent assistance Murderbot must choose between inertia and drastic action. Drastic action it is, then.

Catching Fire

Suzanne Collins

Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has won the annual Hunger Games with fellow district tribute Peeta Mellark. But it was won by defiance of the Capitol and their harsh rules. Katniss and Peeta should be happy since they just won for themselves and their family a life of safety and plenty, however there are rumors of rebellion among the subjects and Katniss and Peeta, to their horror, are faces of that rebellion. The Capitol is angry and wants revenge.

Mockingjay

Suzanne Collins

The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge. Who do they think should pay for the unrest? Katniss Everdeen. Katniss is rescued from the games and is hidden with the resistance in district 13. They are planning the final battles before taking on the Capitol itself, and Katniss is at the heart of it.

QOTD: What was your favorite read for February?

3/6 Edited to

... Read moreFebruary was a month filled with a variety of engaging reads that spanned multiple genres—from science fiction and mystery to young adult dystopian favorites. I found that mixing genres kept my reading experience fresh and exciting. For instance, "Prime Deceptions" by Valerie Valdes took me on a thrilling journey through space with Captain Eva Innocente, blending elements of covert warfare and sci-fi mystery. The complex character relationships, especially Eva’s challenging family ties and her past failures on Garilia, added emotional depth to the adventure. Switching gears to mystery, "Summer's End" by Juneau Black offered a cozy yet suspenseful narrative set around an ancient tomb excavation. The dynamic between Vera and Lenore as they unravel academic conspiracies was particularly satisfying—reminding me of the joy in exploring smaller-scale, character-driven stories nestled within bigger mysteries. Of course, I spent significant time revisiting Suzanne Collins’ celebrated "Hunger Games" trilogy. These books remain timeless with their intense themes of survival, rebellion, and sacrifice. What struck me this time was seeing Katniss’ progression from reluctant participant to the face of revolution, emphasizing the complexity of resistance against oppression. Adding a fresh twist, Martha Wells’ "Network Effect" brought the unique and beloved character Murderbot into sharp focus. The blend of sci-fi adventure with introspective AI humor made this novel a standout. Murderbot's reluctant heroism and quirky narration never fail to charm, and the urgency of rescuing its human associates lent gripping momentum. Throughout the month, tracking my progress towards my reading goal for 2026 kept me motivated—even though I was two books behind schedule, the quality of reading made the journey worthwhile. I also appreciated mixing formats; I listened to audiobooks for convenience while also enjoying printed copies to soak in the text visually. Overall, this reading wrap-up reminds me that whether diving into expansive sci-fi universes, unraveling mysteries, or exploring dystopian sagas, variety fuels my passion for books. If you’re looking for recommendations that combine thrilling plots with rich characterizations, these six reads from February are well worth exploring. What was your favorite book this month? Sharing our reading experiences always brings new discoveries and inspiration to my literary journey.
