Piercing education

Here are some things I think you should know about piercings you may want.

Nose: it stings a little and you have to be very careful when you get it. When I got mine it was the snail sting of the needle other than that I had no pain. Be careful with constantly touching it and I would recommend waiting the allotted time before switching to a hoop. It is awkward to clean and sometimes it itches quite a bit.

Cartilage/helix: before you get it think about how you sleep because that can add to irritation especially when you just get it you can go to an icing or Claire’s but I would recommend going to a piercing shop to make sure it’s more professional. It did not hurt for me to get it either.

EarLobe: I got mine when I was five and I heard it was a needle and I freaked. I remember running around the mall away from my dad but when I got them it stung a bit and git irritated because I am a side sleeper but I have no issues with them.

Bellybutton/naval: I love my bellybutton piercing and I think they look great on so many people. The only thing that hurt in the process were the clamps that aligned the skin so it would be precise. It’s important to make sure you clean it so it doesn’t get infected I’ve had friends’s who have gotten infected and they said it was painful and they had the take the piercing out and let it close. You can wear whatever you want you just have to be careful with any tugging.

There are the things I know about my piercings

... Read moreGetting a new piercing is always an exciting journey, and whether it’s a delicate nose piercing, a stylish earlobe stud, a bold cartilage piece, or a fun belly button ring, the thrill of new body art is undeniable! While my original experiences covered a few popular spots, there’s so much more to learn to ensure your piercing journey is as smooth and healthy as possible. One of the absolute most crucial steps, which I can't stress enough, is choosing the right piercer. It’s not just about finding 'a piercing shop near me'; it's about finding a *professional, reputable studio*. I learned that a good piercer is someone who prioritizes hygiene, uses sterile equipment, and is knowledgeable about anatomy and aftercare. Don't be afraid to ask questions about their sterilization practices (autoclave is key!), their experience, and even to see their portfolio. A responsible piercer will never rush you and will be happy to guide you through the process, from jewelry selection to proper placement. They're your best resource for tailored advice, especially if you're considering a less common piercing. Aftercare is another huge part of the healing process, and honestly, it can make or break your piercing. While I mentioned cleaning my belly button piercing, it’s a universal truth for all piercings: consistency is key! My go-to advice is gentle cleaning with a sterile saline solution (you can buy it or make your own with non-iodized salt and distilled water). Avoid harsh chemicals like alcohol or hydrogen peroxide, as they can irritate the healing tissue and delay recovery. And, as tempting as it is, try not to touch your piercing with unwashed hands! Every time you touch it, you introduce bacteria, increasing the risk of infection. For a nose piercing, I found that gentle soaks really helped, and for my earlobe, just being mindful of my hair and clothes was essential. Dealing with irritation and bumps is also a common part of the journey. It's easy to panic when you see a red bump, but often it’s just irritation from sleeping on it wrong, snagging it, or even a reaction to your jewelry. I quickly learned the difference between irritation and actual infection. Signs of infection include excessive redness, swelling, throbbing pain, green/yellow discharge, and fever. If you suspect an infection, always consult a medical professional, and then reach out to your piercer. They are often incredibly helpful in guiding you. For simple irritation, sometimes a warm compress or just leaving it alone can do wonders. Patience is truly a virtue when it comes to piercing healing! Finally, let's talk about jewelry. The initial jewelry is usually a high-quality, implant-grade material like titanium or surgical stainless steel to minimize allergic reactions. Once your piercing is fully healed – and this can take months, especially for cartilage or belly button piercings – you can start thinking about switching it up. But wait until it's ready! Changing jewelry too soon can cause trauma and prolong healing. For my belly button piercing, I love how many cute options there are, but I always make sure the material is safe for long-term wear. Remember, every piercing is unique, and listening to your piercer's advice and your body's signals is the best way to ensure your piercing thrives.
