📖 Reading of the Day: Discipleship: Breaking a Forty-Year Habit
Scripture: Deuteronomy 1:1–8
How many of us have been camped in the same place spiritually for far too long? Not because God hasn’t called us forward, but because we’ve grown comfortable where we are.
Today’s reading challenged me to ask myself a hard question: Have I stayed at the same mountain longer than God intended? Sometimes we can be grateful that God delivered us from our “Egypt” (our old life), yet hesitate to fully step into the “Canaan” He has prepared for us. We become content with being saved, but not committed to growing.
Breaking camp is a lot like breaking a habit—it isn’t easy. It requires determination to leave behind what has become familiar. Maybe it’s time to break the habit of neglecting Bible study and prayer. Maybe it’s time to reignite our passion for witnessing, serving, and making disciples. Perhaps we’ve settled into spiritual comfort when God is calling us to spiritual maturity.
Growth doesn’t happen by accident. It requires resolve, obedience, faith, prayer, fasting, studying God’s Word, serving faithfully, fellowshipping with other believers, and intentionally walking as a disciple of Christ. 🌿
The beautiful part of today’s passage is that God gave Israel another opportunity through a new generation. What a reminder that His grace gives us another chance, too. No matter how long we’ve been standing still, God is still saying, “It’s time to move.”
Today, hear His words personally:
“You have stayed at this mountain long enough.” (Deuteronomy 1:6)
Don’t let another season pass without stepping into everything God has called you to be. Break camp. Trust Him. Move forward. Your next level of spiritual growth is waiting.
✨ Reflection: What “mountain” have you been camped at that God is calling you to leave behind?
