Scheduling Coordinator

As someone who has worked as a scheduling coordinator in a long-term care (LTC) facility, I completely understand the challenge of keeping track of multiple staff schedules, including your own. Another important lesson I’ve learned is the value of taking time off yourself. The motivational phrases I kept on my tracker like “You can’t pour from an empty cup” and “Rest today. Lead tomorrow” reminded me that as a leader, rest isn’t a luxury but a necessity. Planning PTO ahead and knowing your balance encourages you to recharge, which improves productivity and decision-making in the long run. Finally, communication plays a vital role. I found that having open lines with staff when scheduling and approving PTO reduced confusion and helped everyone feel respected and considered. In LTC settings, unforeseen changes occur frequently; a well-organized schedule combined with flexibility and empathy creates a more positive work environment.
