Pre-workout meal!
I don’t know about y’all, but I’m not one of those people who can work out on an empty stomach. I think it’s smart to fuel your body with something about 45 minutes to an hour before you work out And here I’m eating red & green lettuce with arugula. 2-4 ounces of salmon, half a cup of wild rice. And a little EVOO, lemon juice & garlic as my dressing. YUM! 😋 #healthyeating #fitness #motivation #foodie #fypシ
Choosing the right pre-workout meal can significantly impact your energy levels and overall workout performance. Ideally, your meal should include a balanced mix of protein, complex carbohydrates, and healthy fats to provide sustained energy without feeling heavy or sluggish. For example, the meal described with 2-4 ounces of salmon offers a high-quality protein source rich in omega-3 fatty acids that support muscle recovery and reduce inflammation. Wild rice serves as an excellent source of complex carbohydrates, gradually releasing energy during your workout. The red and green lettuce with arugula provides essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that support overall health and digestion. Adding extra virgin olive oil (EVOO), lemon juice, and garlic as a dressing not only enhances flavor but also contributes heart-healthy fats and anti-inflammatory compounds. Timing is also key. Eating this meal about 45 minutes to an hour before your workout allows your body to begin digesting and converting nutrients into usable energy, maximizing your endurance and strength. It’s important to listen to your body, as some people may prefer eating earlier or later depending on individual digestion and workout intensity. Additionally, hydration should not be overlooked. Drinking water alongside your pre-workout meal will keep you well-hydrated, which is crucial for optimal physical performance and preventing fatigue. For those who can’t manage a full meal before exercising, small snacks like a banana with nut butter or a yogurt parfait can also work, but including protein and carbs—as seen in this salmon and wild rice meal—tends to provide the best fuel for longer or more intense sessions. Incorporating these elements into your pre-workout nutrition strategy can help you stay energized, motivated, and ready to crush your fitness goals while supporting muscle health and recovery.
