And to be gracious? That’s unearned favor, kindness, and mercy. It reminds me that even when I fall short, His grace is always there, abundant and freely given. It’s such a powerful reminder that we are loved unconditionally. The final line, “The Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace,” is the beautiful culmination. To lift up His countenance is similar to making His face shine, but it emphasizes a personal, direct, and attentive gaze. Not just the absence of conflict, but shalom – a holistic peace that encompasses well-being, wholeness, prosperity, and tranquility in every area of life.
