... Read moreI often find myself coming back to Proverbs 4:23, 'WATCH OVER YOUR heart WITH ALL DILIGENCE, For from it flow the springs of life.' This verse from the NASB truly captures the essence of a Christian walk. It's not just about what we do, but how we guard our innermost being – our thoughts, emotions, and intentions.
For me, diligence isn't just about hard work; it's a heavenly virtue. It's about being intentional and persistent in nurturing what really matters. When we're diligent in our faith, it means actively seeking God, studying His Word, and praying. It's consistently putting in the effort to grow spiritually, even when it's challenging. This commitment helps us maintain a strong foundation in our beliefs, ensuring our faith isn't easily swayed by the ups and downs of life.
How does this look in our everyday lives? Think about the diligence a gardener shows in tending to their plants – regular watering, weeding, ensuring the right sunlight. Our spiritual lives require similar care. It could mean diligently setting aside time each morning for devotion, even if it's just five minutes. Or, diligently choosing encouraging thoughts over negative ones when faced with a difficult situation. Perhaps it's being diligent in showing kindness to those around us, even when we don't feel like it. These small, consistent acts are examples of diligence in daily life that build up over time, strengthening our character and our connection with God.
Beyond Proverbs 4:23, the Bible is full of verses about being diligent and encouraging diligence. For instance, Romans 12:11 advises, 'Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.' Or 2 Peter 1:5-7, which urges us to 'make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly affection; and to brotherly affection, love.' These passages all highlight that spiritual growth isn't passive; it requires active, diligent participation. This is how we edify ourselves and others around us, creating a positive ripple effect in our communities.
The promise in Proverbs 4:23 is incredible: 'For from it flow the springs of life.' When we diligently watch over our hearts, we protect the source of our vitality, our purpose, and our deepest connections. A heart filled with peace, love, and faith can truly impact the world around us. It's about ensuring that what flows out of us is pure and life-giving, reflecting God's love and grace. It's a continuous journey, but one that yields immense spiritual rewards and keeps our faith strong, allowing us to live a life that truly honors Him.
Amen🙏🏻♥️
