Pure heart ✨

Lately, I've been doing a lot of soul-searching about what it truly means to live a life that honors my faith. It all comes back to the idea of a 'pure heart' and the 'fruit' we bear. We often hear those phrases in church, but what do they really mean for our daily lives? I remember stumbling upon the verse, 'You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit.' (Matthew 7:16-17, ESV). This really struck me. It's not just about what we say we believe, but what our lives actually show. Are we producing 'good fruit' – kindness, patience, love, self-control – or are we showing 'rotten fruit' – anger, bitterness, selfishness? This journey towards bearing good fruit naturally led me to Psalm 51:10, which beautifully says, 'Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.' For me, this isn't just a prayer; it's a deep longing. How can we truly produce good fruit if our hearts aren't pure? It's like trying to grow delicious apples from a tree with diseased roots. The image 'Create in me a Pure heart' has really resonated with me, reminding me that this purity is a divine work within us, something we seek and God provides. The Bible is full of wisdom on this. Luke 6:43-45 further explains, 'For no good tree bears bad fruit, nor again does a bad tree bear good fruit, for each tree is known by its own fruit. For figs are not gathered from thornbushes, nor are grapes picked from a bramble bush. The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.' This verse makes it so clear: our actions, our 'fruit,' are a direct reflection of what's in our hearts. If my heart is filled with love and compassion, then my actions will naturally follow suit. But if there's bitterness or jealousy lurking, it will eventually show itself as 'rotten fruit'. So, how do we cultivate this 'pure heart' that yields good fruit? For me, it starts with daily reflection and prayer. I try to ask myself: 'What kind of fruit am I producing today? Are my intentions pure?' It's not always easy, and sometimes I definitely catch myself bearing some 'rotten fruit' – a sharp word, a moment of impatience. But that's when I turn back to that powerful prayer from Psalm 51:10, asking God to 'Create in me a pure heart.' It's a continuous process of seeking forgiveness, allowing God to transform me from the inside out, and striving to align my heart with His. I've found that when I focus on nurturing my inner self, my outward actions naturally become more positive and loving. It's about striving for authenticity in our faith, where our inner world truly matches the 'good fruit' we aspire to share with the world. It's a journey, not a destination. No one is perfect, but the intention to have a 'pure heart' and to bear 'good fruit' is what matters.
