Baby brewing 🥰✨
As a March mama-to-be, the excitement is truly brewing! My due date (it feels like it's just around the corner!) has me busy nesting and dreaming up all sorts of adorable things for my little one. Watching my baby bump grow has been magical, and it’s fueled my desire to add a personal touch to every baby preparation. Planning for the baby shower got me thinking beyond just gifts. I wanted a centerpiece that was not only charming but also practical. That’s when I stumbled upon the idea of a rocking horse diaper cake. It seemed like the perfect blend of whimsy and utility, and honestly, who doesn't need a mountain of diapers? I knew I had to try making one myself. Now, you might think a rocking horse diaper cake looks complicated, but trust me, it's totally achievable, even for a first-timer like me! Here’s a quick rundown of what I used and how I pulled it off for my March baby: Materials You'll Need: Around 70-80 diapers (I went for size 1-2, so they could be used longer after the shower) A sturdy cardboard base (round or oval works best) Elastic bands (lots of them!) Wide ribbon (in your chosen baby shower colors) Smaller decorative ribbons or embellishments Hot glue gun and glue sticks A few baby blankets or receiving blankets for shaping Cardboard scraps for the rocking base, head, and tail (optional, you can also buy pre-made kits) Baby socks, pacifiers, small toys for decoration My DIY Process & Tips: Rolling the Diapers: This is the most time-consuming part. Roll each diaper tightly from the open end towards the folded end and secure it with a small elastic band. Consistency is key here for a neat look. Building the Body: I started by forming the main 'body' of the horse on the cardboard base. I used a rolled baby blanket in the center as a core, then arranged circles of rolled diapers around it, securing each layer with a larger elastic band or a long piece of ribbon. I created three tiers, gradually decreasing in size. Shaping the Rockers: For the rocking base, I cut two crescent shapes from sturdy cardboard and covered them with fabric to match. I then hot-glued them to the bottom of my diaper cake base. This gave it that classic rocking horse silhouette. Adding the Head and Tail: This is where the rocking horse truly comes to life! I fashioned a simple horse head shape from cardboard, covered it with a baby blanket, and attached it to the front of the top tier with hot glue. I used some braided ribbon for the mane and a fluffy baby sock for the tail. Some use small plush toys as the head, which is also super cute! Decorating: This was my favorite part! I used wide satin ribbon to wrap around each tier, covering the elastic bands and giving it a polished look. Then I added smaller bows, baby socks for 'hooves,' and tucked in little pacifiers and baby-themed trinkets. I even found some cute wooden letters to spell out 'Baby [Last Name]' on the side. It was such a rewarding project, and it truly felt special to create something with my own hands for my little one's arrival. Everyone at the shower adored the rocking horse diaper cake, and it made for the perfect centerpiece before being disassembled for its much-needed contents! If you're a March mama or expecting anytime soon, I highly recommend giving this DIY a try. It adds such a personal touch to your baby shower.
