From my own faith journey, I've come to appreciate the unique role the Virgin Mary plays in Catholic spirituality. While many might confuse honoring Mary with worship, the distinction is crucial. Worship is reserved for God alone, as He is the Creator and Savior, but honoring Mary acknowledges her extraordinary role as the mother of Jesus and her deep faith and obedience to God. I find comfort in thinking of Mary as an intercessor, someone who prays on our behalf just like a close friend or family member would. It’s encouraging to know that when I pray to Mary, it's not about asking her to save me—that role belongs to Jesus—but about asking her to bring my intentions closer to Him. This idea of intercession has helped deepen my prayer life and trust in God’s plan. What resonates most with me is Mary's example of saying “yes” to God. Her willingness to embrace God's plan, even without knowing what it fully entailed, inspires me to surrender my own fears and doubts. Through honoring Mary, I've learned to focus more on following Jesus' teachings, guided by her words: “Do whatever He tells you” (John 2:5). Mary’s presence in the Catholic faith also highlights a profound maternal love. She symbolizes God's care and guidance, leading us closer to Jesus. This maternal image helps me feel supported spiritually, especially during challenging times when I need encouragement to stay strong in my faith. Understanding that God is the center, Jesus is the way, and Mary is the loving mother guiding us helps clarify why Catholics honor her. It’s not about placing her above God or Jesus but recognizing her special role in salvation history and daily spiritual life. Personally, this perspective has opened my heart to a richer, more connected faith experience.
