Manilkarazapota

The Talmud (scientific name: Manilkara zapota) is a medium-to-large perennial plant that is popular for its ripe, sweet and fragrant fruits, very popular in Thailand and Southeast Asia.

• Common name: Sapodilla, Sapota

• Local names: Lamud, Lamudh, Lamudh (some parts are called different)

• Wong: Sapotaceae

• Native: Central America and Mexico

🌳 Characteristics of the Talmud:

• Stems: Perennial plants, up to 15-20 meters tall. The stem bark has white latex similar to sap.

• Leaves: Single, oval or lance-shaped, smooth leaf margins, oily dark green

• Blossoms: White or creamy, thick petals, issued singly or in small groups along the axils of the leaves.

• Fruit: Oval round shape, greyish brown bark. When ripe, it is soft, sweet, fragrant, with 2-6 hard seeds.
