Boden Part Two
Seeing Boden’s amazing progress fills my heart with so much joy! It feels like just yesterday we were so worried, but now he's truly turning a corner. For anyone out there fostering or rescuing a sick kitten, I wanted to share a bit more about our journey and what we've learned. When Boden first came to us, he was quite unwell. The vet prescribed Clavamox, which we've been diligently giving him 0.2cc twice daily. Administering medication to a tiny, squirming kitten can be a challenge, but I've found a few tricks that make it easier. Gently wrapping him in a soft towel (like a little burrito!) helps keep him still. Then, slowly squirting the medicine into the side of his mouth, making sure he swallows, has become part of our routine. He’s such a good boy, he barely fights us anymore, which is a huge relief! Beyond medication, keeping him clean and comfortable has been paramount. His face often needed cleaning, especially around his nose and eyes. We used warm water and a soft cloth, very gently, to clear away any discharge. It’s a small detail, but it makes such a difference in their comfort and ability to breathe and see clearly. Ensuring he gets enough rest in a peaceful environment is also incredibly important for healing. Rest is also incredibly important for healing. We made sure Boden had a quiet, warm spot away from any drafts or loud noises. A cozy bed with soft blankets, and even a warm water bottle wrapped in a towel on one side, seemed to make him feel secure. But it wasn't just about physical comfort; a lot of it was about emotional support too. Lots of cuddles, gentle strokes, and just simply being present with him. He loves to lie on his back and purr when we give him affection, which is the sweetest sound. It’s been so rewarding to see his energy levels return. Even when he was sickest, he’d still try to play a little, which was always a good sign. Now, he’s full of playful energy! Providing safe toys, like soft balls or feather wands, encourages his natural instincts and helps him build strength. Play also helps them feel like a normal, happy kitten, which is great for their mental well-being during recovery. Rescuing a sick kitten can be both heartbreaking and incredibly rewarding. There are tough days, worries, and sleepless nights. But then there are moments like these, seeing them purr, play, and heal, that make every effort worthwhile. Each purr, every playful pounce, feels like a thank you. If you're considering rescuing or fostering, know that it takes patience, dedication, and a lot of love, but the bond you form and the life you save are truly precious. Don't hesitate to consult with your vet regularly and trust your instincts – you are their best advocate.
