I spent years struggling with my low po hair

I didn't always "know ball" when it came to low porosity hair.

For years I struggled with dryness, frizz, breakage, and products that never did what they promised. I kept trying routine after routine, thinking something was wrong with my hair when the truth was simple - I didn't understand low porosity at all.

No one taught me how it worked.

No one explained why my hair stayed dry.

No one told me the advice I was following was actually making things worse.

I lost so much length and confidence because of that.

So I did what any frustrated girl would do - I started learning everything I could. The science, the mistakes, the routines, the ingredients, the techniques. I rebuilt my understanding from the ground up.

And now I'm restarting my own healthy hair journey with you. Everything I post is what I wish someone told me years ago.

If you feel stuck, confused, or like your hair never cooperates, l've been there. You're not doing everything wrong - you just need information that actually makes sense for low porosity hair.

Follow for step by step low porosity education, hydration tips, and beginner friendly routines.

... Read moreWhen I first realized I had low porosity hair, it was honestly overwhelming. I’d always thought that just buying the right products would solve my persistent dryness and breakage issues, but those quick fixes never lasted. What truly changed my approach was understanding the unique characteristics of low porosity hair — particularly how its tightly bound cuticles resist moisture absorption. One of the biggest game-changers for me was learning to incorporate heat into my hair care routine. Using warm water for washing and gentle heat treatments helped open the cuticles enough to allow products to penetrate deeply. I also switched to lightweight, water-based moisturizers because heavy creams just sat on top of my hair, causing buildup and more frizz. Patience was key. Instead of overwhelming my hair with layers of product, I focused on minimal, high-quality ingredients like glycerin and aloe vera that hydrate without weigh-down. I learned to always seal in moisture with natural oils like jojoba or grapeseed oil, which complement low porosity hair better than heavier oils. Another eye-opening moment was realizing that not all DIY tips work the same for every porosity type. Some advice I followed actually worsened my hair condition because it wasn’t tailored for low porosity hair—like excessive protein treatments which made my hair brittle. Sharing this journey has made me realize how important it is to have access to factual, easy-to-understand education about hair porosity. If you’re struggling like I did, know that your hair isn’t flawed. It just requires a routine designed specifically for its needs. Keep learning, experimenting gently, and remember that healthy hair is a journey, not a quick fix.
