You're probably doing one but ignoring the other
Hydrating and moisturizing products are not the same and low porosity hair needs both to stay soft, flexible, and healthy.
Hydrating products focus on getting water into the hair. You can hydrate with plain water, but low porosity hair won't absorb it well unless you do it properly meaning warm water or steam, and applying your products while your hair is still damp& warm.
Hydrating products with humectants like aloe, glycerin, sorbitol, honey, or panthenol make this step even more effective because they help pull water deeper into the strand.
Moisturizing products help your hair hold onto that water. They use lightweight emollients like fatty alcohols, silicones, and softening oils to smooth the cuticle, reduce friction, and slow moisture loss without sitting on top of low porosity hair.
If your hair stays dry, stiff, or products just sit on top, it's usually because you hydrated without moisturizing, or moisturized without proper hydration first.
The correct order for low porosity hair:
1. Hydrate (warm water or a humectant-based product)
2. Moisturize (light emollients)
3. Seal with a lightweight oil (jojoba, grapeseed)
This simple routine shifts low porosity hair from dry and stubborn to soft, shiny, and manageable.
