Be Proud of Your Mixed Heritage!
I’ve often been made to feel ashamed of not fitting boxes. Not be fully one culture, race, gender, and so on. The #world , segregates itself into boxes, you are either born into a box, or you conform to fit in. But how far are you willing to hurt, and deny your #truth to find fake belonging? Who did you sacrifice, in-order to become who you are? I’ve gotten to a point, of giving 🆙 on fitting in, and #creating my own spaces, where all of me is #celebrated . I’m a kaleidoscope not a box, ever changing, ever glowing! In a white supremacist 🌎 that instills #racism into our upbringings, making us feel ashamed that our skin color, or hair texture, or features don’t match western Anglo-Saxon beauty ideals is considered ugly, it’s even harder to feel good in our skin, if our surroundings deems us unworthy to feeling beautiful. May we all learn from another’s background, and never have to be ashamed of where we come from, who we are and where we are leading!
Growing up with a mixed heritage often means navigating a complex world of cultural expectations and identity challenges. From my own experience, not fitting neatly into one category can feel isolating, but it can also be a profound source of strength and creativity. I once struggled with the pressure to conform—whether it was cultural norms, racial identity, or beauty ideals shaped by Western Anglo-Saxon standards. These pressures can make it easy to feel ashamed of natural features like skin color or hair texture. However, embracing the fullness of who I am allowed me to create my own space where all aspects of my identity are valued and celebrated. One powerful step is to recognize that identity is not a fixed box but a kaleidoscope—constantly evolving and glowing with the richness of diverse heritage. By rejecting the harmful messages of racism embedded in society and choosing to honor each part of our background, we can build confidence and resilience. I encourage others to seek out communities or create safe spaces where mixed heritage identities are celebrated openly. Sharing stories, traditions, and experiences helps break down misconceptions and fosters understanding. This collective celebration helps to counteract the shame imposed by societal segregation. Ultimately, pride in mixed heritage is about owning your unique story and recognizing its beauty amidst a world that often prefers simplicity. It’s a journey of self-discovery and affirmation, reminding us all that true belonging comes from embracing authenticity rather than fitting into narrow definitions.
