Protecting or letting go Trauma

I had a #therapist once who told me to let go of my #trauma as it’s causing me more damage. I thought my #innocence as a #survivor would be gone if I didn’t #protect my pain. Also how do I let go, when my abusers walk free and it caused me so my harm, that I don’t want to forget what they inflicted on me. But also for the sake of my peace ☮️ and mind to let go to be whole!

... Read moreNavigating trauma is deeply personal, and the choice between holding on to pain or releasing it can feel overwhelming. From my experience, protecting trauma often feels like safeguarding a part of your identity—especially for survivors who fear losing their innocence or the validity of their suffering. However, I gradually learned that 'letting go' does not mean forgetting or minimizing what happened. Instead, it’s about reclaiming your peace and mental well-being. One effective approach is practicing mindfulness and self-compassion to observe trauma without becoming consumed by it. Journaling and expressive arts helped me process difficult emotions safely. It's also essential to acknowledge that not all circumstances allow for closure, especially when abusers remain free. In such cases, individualized therapy or support groups can empower survivors to build internal resilience and redefine their narrative without negating their pain. The phrase "letting go may save" resonates deeply—it suggests that releasing trauma can ultimately save your mental health and restore a sense of wholeness. Deciding to let go is not about erasing the past but choosing to live with peace despite it. For anyone on this journey, remember that healing is not linear. Be patient and kind with yourself. Protect your boundaries, seek supportive communities or therapists, and trust that peace is possible even after profound harm.
