My ✡️ heritage will always find me!
I was at #hindu #temple to #meditate where I felt safer there, than a typical #Shul . The #StarOfDavid has many meaning to other folks, as the symbol has changed over history. It’s always been a symbol of pride for me, when it’s people have been less though, I felt special being a part of this minority, but also have been weary of displaying my Magen david in public due to rising antisemitism. And how idiots conflate their antizionism with a jewish symbol. As a non Zionist, my Star of David ✡️ has nothing to do with the Israeli 🇮🇱 governments actions, and I shouldn’t be persecuted for it. I want to live freely, without fear 😰 without needing to hide 😶🌫️ in shame and being able to be visible openly without any backlash. I carry the symbol on my left arm as a tattoo, knowing the risks it brings tagging me. But it’s a part of my lineage, heritage and who I am, and to erase its meaning is to suppress myself. I won’t change for others approval nor hatred.
Growing up with a deep connection to my heritage has always been a source of strength for me. In today’s world, openly displaying such symbols can unfortunately draw unwanted attention due to rising antisemitism, which is why many choose to conceal or avoid showing these emblems in public. I’ve personally experienced moments where I felt the need to retreat or hide the parts of myself that make me who I am, simply out of concern for personal safety. Yet, each time I see that tattoo, it reminds me that my heritage is not something to be ashamed of or hidden. Instead, it is a source of pride that connects me with a rich history, resilience, and a community that has endured so much. Furthermore, I find it important to clarify that my symbol is about my lineage, not political affiliations. Many people mistakenly associate the Star of David exclusively with the Israeli government or Zionism. As someone who identifies as a non-Zionist, I want to emphasize that my connection to the star transcends contemporary politics. It’s about faith, culture, and ancestry — a heritage that has been part of me long before modern conflicts began. Meditation and visiting spiritual places like Hindu temples have also offered me solace and a sense of safety, sometimes more than traditional Jewish spaces due to the social climate. This cross-cultural experience deepens my understanding of spirituality and helps me find peace amidst the challenges of public identity. For those who feel pressured to diminish their visibility because of prejudice or misinformation, remember that embracing your heritage openly is an act of courage and resistance. We should celebrate our symbols and what they represent without fear of backlash. Our identities are complex and beautiful, shaped by history, spirituality, and personal experience. No external hatred should ever suppress that light within us.
