Had an audition today!
Went to an audition for Green Day's American Idiot: The Musical. Obviously didn't have footage of the audition combo FROM the audition itself but I will say it felt really good.
For my second audition ever (besides auditioning for Temper Tantrum), this one felt less nerve-racking. Maybe it's because the combo felt fairly easy. Maybe it's because I may be just getting better as a dancer. Although I will admit I felt intimidated, initially, since it seemed like I was the only non-technical dancer (in the female dancer call at least), and I didn't have any tricks to save myself. Maybe I lucked out because the choreography that was taught didn't require that much technique and focused more on power and performance.
So yeah no videos from the audition room, but here are pictures of me and Becca, also a Temper Tantrum dancer. And now we're called IcyHot because... hair.

It’s about channeling that nervous energy into focus and passion. Being a "non-technical" dancer, I often felt like I had to prove myself differently. While others might showcase intricate pirouettes or soaring leaps, my strength lies in raw power and storytelling through movement. For a musical like American Idiot, which is all about raw emotion and punk rock energy, this felt like an advantage. It’s about embracing your unique style – your inner bunderkin spirit, if you will – and letting it shine. Don't let perceived weaknesses overshadow your authentic strengths. If your performance exudes personality and conviction, that's what truly captivates. Technical perfection is one thing, but emotional connection is another, and often more impactful, especially in musical theatre. The choreography for this audition really played to these strengths, focusing more on dynamic body language and performance rather than strictly classical technique. This was a reminder that every show has its own demands, and sometimes, your unconventional approach is exactly what they're looking for. It reinforced my belief that bringing your true self, with all your quirks and strengths, is key. And speaking of unique vibes, I couldn't get through an audition recap without mentioning my amazing friend Becca! We met through Temper Tantrum and have been on this wild dance journey together. Post-audition, we even got our fun new nickname, IcyHot, because of our vibrant hair colors! It’s incredible how friendships can form and grow through shared experiences like these. Having someone by your side who understands the highs and lows, the triumphs and the challenges, makes every step of the artistic path even more rewarding. These connections are a huge part of what makes the performing arts so special. So, whether you're a seasoned pro or just starting out, embrace your unique dance journey, connect with fellow artists, and never be afraid to show the world your authentic, powerful self.
